Touring Experiences

Jungfrau Railway

A visit to The Jungfraujoch is a jewel in the crown of any visit to Switzerland and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. For over a century, the Jungfrau cog railway has made the steep ascent up a seven-kilometre-long tunnel to Jungfraujoch, at 3,454 metres, Europe’s highest-altitude railway station. Arriving at the summit, you feel you’re on top of Europe, literally and amid this amazing icy wonderland, the views from observation decks are simply staggering: on one side, the Swiss Mittelland towards the Vosges and the other, Aletsch Glacier, lined with 4,000-metre peaks.

Bernina Express

Switzerland's panorama railway journeys are an extraordinary and comfortable way to experience this Alpine country’s breathtaking mountain and glacier scenery. One of the most celebrated is the Bernina Express, a panoramic train that connects the north of Europe to its south, right through the UNESCO World Heritage site of Rhaetian Railway, passing glaciers on its way down to palm trees. On this memorable journey you’ll marvel at the sapphire-hued glaciers and dramatic, jagged mountains, as well as astonishing architectural wonders like the single-track Brusio Circular Viaduct, with its nine stone arches. You’ll also traverse the spectacular, high mountain Bernina Pass, with views of Lake Bianco and snow-capped Morteratsch Glacier.

The Sound of Music

On the city’s Sound of Music tour, you’ll learn more about the Von Trapp family’s compelling story as revealed in the film and visit some important landmarks of the family’s life in Salzburg. You’ll also visit some of the original filming locations, such as the Mirabell Gardens and Pegasus Fountain, the site of the dance scene with Maria and the children.

Austrian Lakes District
