With all the character and charm of yesteryear, the PS Murray Princess is the largest inland paddlewheeler in the southern hemisphere. Built specifically for the Murray River, this enchanting vessel offers a true authentic experience for anyone who cruises with her. Guests can expect a taste of a bygone era, with the grandeur and convenience of modern-day cruising. Accommodating up to 120 passengers, she evokes a sense of intimacy and offers passengers a unique river boat cruise experience through the captivating landscapes of Australia’s Outback. Enjoy a choice of marvellous off-train experiences, discovering the highlights of New South Wales

Today, The Great Southern rolls its way through New South Wales and after breakfast, you’ll disembark to explore this region, on one of your chosen all-day off-train experiences – which also includes a delicious lunch. You may wish to spend the day in the historic vineyards of the Hunter Valley, sampling some of the region’s finest wineries in Australia’s oldest wine region and generous tasting times. Or explore beautiful Port Stephens either by land or sea; the town’s sun-soaked beaches, stunning dunes and sparkling waterways are essential east coast highlights. Explore the Southern Hemisphere’s largest mobile dunes in a guided 4WD excursion or take a relaxing catamaran cruise out on the bay. Alternatively, discover the charms of Australia’s third-oldest city, Newcastle, which includes a walking tour. After your exciting day, reboard the Great Southern to continue your journey southwards.

Explore the charms of Victoria, with off-train experiences in Melbourne or beyond in a scenic wine region

Your journey continues into regional Victoria, where again, you can discover for yourself on one of the memorable off-train experiences provided for the day. Venture into Melbourne and get to know the city like a local, with a 90-minute guided laneway walking tour, taking-in the key sights and more. You could also opt for inclusive tours of either the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), with a tour hosted by a knowledgeable MCG member, or the historic Melbourne Gaol, scene of 133 hangings, including Australia’s most infamous citizen, Bushranger Ned Kelly! Alternatively, head beyond Melbourne for scenic Rabool Valley and Clyde Park, a beautiful vineyard, cellar door and bistro set amongst rolling hills, sampling Victoria’s acclaimed food and wines. Afterwards, you’ll re-board the Great Southern to continue your journey southwards.

The Great Southern continues its journey into South Australia before reaching its final destination, the capital city, Adelaide. Your grand railway adventure concludes here and you’ll disembark The Great Southern, then transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day, you are free at leisure to explore historic Adelaide, resplendent with wide boulevards, lush gardens and diverse architecture, which extends to striking churches – why it’s known as ‘The City of Churches.’ Discover the capital’s renowned arts and culture and fantastic regional food and wines and excellent museums such as The Art Gallery of South Australia and South Australian Museum, which provide insights into Australia’s storied heritage.

After breakfast, you’ll embark on a fascinating guided tour of Murray Bridge and explore the town’s historic Roundhouse, a hexagonal-shaped, historical residence that captures the history of this remarkable region and enhances magnificent views of the river. Back on board, enjoy a special presentation of the delicious bounty of local food and wine produced in the lush Riverland region, then continue your journey upriver, where you’ll moor at Salt Bush Flat.

This morning, you’ll join your guide for a nature walk through the spectacular scenery of Salt Bush Flat, learning the fascinating secrets surrounding the local flora and fauna. Back on board, you’ll then head downriver to River View Lodge and embark on a memorable wildlife tour. In small groups, you’ll wind through the maze of waterways on a Dragon-fly flat-bottomed boat, observing the majestic views of river birdlife, including darters, herons and egrets. You’ll later enjoy an afternoon of bocce or fishing challenges then savour a final night celebration on board at the farewell Captain’s dinner and dance.

Returning to Mannum Wharf in the morning, you’ll disembark the PS Murray Princess, then en-route to Adelaide, enjoy an exclusive full-day tour of Barossa Valley, South Australia’s premium wine region. You can sample some of the Barossa’s finest award-winning wines produced here, including at the famous Jacobs Creek Visitor Centre, where you’ll also join a winery tour. Then relish a sumptuous two-course lunch and wine tasting at the Lambert Estate before winding your way through the picturesque Adelaide Hills to Hahndorf, Adelaide’s oldest German settlement, stopping en-route at the Mengler Hill Lookout. At Hahndorf, visit Beerenberg Farm Shop for an informative talk and wine tasting, before exploring the main street, lined with artsy boutique stores and galleries.

Leaving Adelaide early, you’ll embark on a ferry journey from the mainland to Kangaroo Island for a memorable two-day stay. Kangaroo Island presents stunning scenery, crystal-clear waters and pristine wilderness, considered one of the best places in Australia to see wildlife in their natural habitat. You’ll first visit Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery where you’ll take a guided walk before a delicious barbecue lunch. Next, you’ll head to the incredible Raptor Domain for an exciting “In-Flight” Birds of Prey display, then enjoy a guided beach walk amongst Australian sea lions at the Seal Bay Conservation Park.

Your amazing day begins at the island’s west and Flinders Chase National Park, renowned as a sanctuary for kangaroos, wallabies and koalas and for its striking coastal rock formations, including the sculpted Remarkable Rocks. Wander the raw and rugged coastline where you’ll relish the fantastic photo opportunities of breathtaking ocean views. After lunch, visit Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, where you’ll get up-close with koalas, hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies and learn more about Australia’s endangered species.
