Explore the Westfjords Heritage Museum, housed in a renovated 18th-century building, where you can learn about the town’s maritime history. Isafjordur also serves as a charming exploration hub for the surrounding rugged and remote Westfjords peninsula. Today you’ll relish a fantastic scenic cruise through Isafjardurdjur, a large fjord in the Westfjords region, which translates as “Ice Fjord Deep.” The northern shore is relatively uniform, whereas the southern coastline is serrated by eight smaller fjords slicing deeply into the land mass. Aside from the diverse landscapes of the fjords themselves, keep an eye out for seals, puffins and eagles, as well as fishing boats heading out to sea.

Located near Cape Thorvaldsen, Qaqortoq is southern Greenland’s most populous town and boasts a rich history, inhabited continuously since prehistoric times. You can still see traces of Thule and Norse cultures throughout the region, starting with the ruins of the 14th-century Hvalsey Church at nearby Hvalsey Fjord. Most of Qaqortoq’s main attractions, including the main museum, are located on or close by the main square. Here, sample tasty Greenlandic specialties at a local restaurant and visit shops selling everything from household items to reindeer skins and hand-made souvenirs. You could also bask in the purest fresh air and striking scenery submerged in Uunartoq Hot Springs, the only heated outdoor spa in Greenland.
